Anatomical model of cholesterol

This anatomical model of cholesterol reproduces, in an enlarged size, the composition of this substance, which circulates in the blood vessels.

Cholesterol is a substance that comes from two sources: the body and food. The body, in a healthy state, produces all the cholesterol it needs, which circulates through the blood. However, cholesterol can also be found in foods of animal origin, such as meat, poultry, and full-fat dairy products. The liver produces more cholesterol when you eat a diet high in saturated fats.

Excess cholesterol can form plaques between the layers of artery walls, making it difficult for blood to flow. These plaques can rupture and cause blood clots. If a clot blocks an artery that supplies blood to the brain, it can cause a stroke. If it blocks an artery that supplies blood to the heart, it can cause a heart attack.

As it displays detailed representations, this model is suitable for use in a school or university context, during learning about the anatomy of the human body.

In terms of structure, this model is attached to a sturdy rectangular base, which allows for simple handling.
