Circular fractions (51 pieces)

This set of 51 circular fractions in nine different colors varies depending on the number of parts into which the circles are divided.

In addition to the purple circle that represents unity, the set has circular sectors that represent the following fractions: one half, one third, one quarter, one fifth, one sixth, one eighth, one tenth and one twelfth.

There are other sets where we can work with fractions. These materials are suitable for developing the understanding of fractions as parts of a unit or set and as division of whole numbers where problems of reconstruction of the unit can be worked on. Furthermore, in later years they can also be used: to compare rational numbers in the form of a fraction; to identify relationships between different representations of a number (decimal, fractional and percentage) in the approach to different operations with rational numbers.

Example of activity:

As an initial task, the child can be asked to rebuild the unit with pieces of the same color. Assuming that we chose the color blue, we then ask how many sectors were needed to complete the unit. Finally, we can conclude that each of the blue sectors corresponds to a quarter of the unit.
