Set of 51 fractional bars
Further information
Set of 51 fractional bars of nine different colors that vary according to the number of parts into which they are divided. In addition to the blue bar that represents the unit, the set has bars of different colors that represent the following fractions: a half, a third, a fourth, a fifth, a sixth, an eighth, a tenth and a twelfth.
There are other sets where we can work with fractions, see here. These materials are suitable to develop the understanding of fractions as parts of a unit or a set and as a division of whole numbers where problems of reconstruction of the unit can be worked.
In addition, in later years, the following can also be used:
- comparing rational numbers as a fraction;
- identifying relationships between different representations of a number (decimal, fractional and percentage)
- in approaching the different operations with rational numbers.
Features
Includes 51 fractional bars.
Activity example
As an initial task, the child may be asked to rebuild the unit with pieces of the same color. Admitting that we chose the color green, we then asked how many bars were needed to complete the unit. Finally, we can conclude that each of the green bars corresponds to one fifth of the unit.
